About The Position

MWH is currently seeking a qualified Project Engineer to support the mechanical scope of work on a critical water treatment plant construction project in Gresham, Oregon. Essential Functions The Project Engineer Mechanical supports the planning, coordination, and execution of a defined mechanical construction package on a water treatment plant (WTP) project. This role focuses on process piping, mechanical equipment installation, subcontractor coordination, and commissioning support, critical to treatment plant operations. The Project Engineer works closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, mechanical subcontractors, engineers, inspectors, and owner representatives to ensure work is completed safely, in compliance with contract documents, and aligned with project schedule and budget. This position is intended for professionals with 26 years of experience in mechanical construction within water/wastewater, industrial, or process facility environments. Package Specific Mechanical Scope: A typical mechanical scope may include, but is not limited to: Pumps, blowers, mixers, and treatment process equipment Valves, gates, actuators, and appurtenances Chemical feed systems and storage equipment HVAC systems serving treatment facilities Mechanical equipment installation, alignment, and testing

Requirements

  • 26 years of experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar role.
  • Experience supporting mechanical scopes on water or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, piping systems, and treatment process equipment.
  • Basic understanding of commissioning, testing, and system turnover.
  • Working knowledge of construction cost control and change. management
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Equivalent field experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication with field crews, subcontractors, and engineers.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an active treatment plant environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CMiC, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of the mechanical package
  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, O&M manuals, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate daily activities of mechanical subcontractors with field supervision.
  • Track quantities, production, and installation progress.
  • Support inspections, testing, and quality control documentation.
  • Assist with the procurement of mechanical equipment and tracking of long-lead items.
  • Support cost tracking, forecasting, and change management activities.
  • Participate in startup, commissioning, and system turnover activities.
  • Promote jobsite safety and compliance with project safety plans.
