About The Position

The Project Engineer Intern will play a pivotal role in our construction projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience in both field and office environments. This internship provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, learning various aspects of project management, construction techniques, and industry-specific software. The intern will assist in field operations, including working with construction crews, utilizing surveying equipment, and documenting project progress. Additionally, they will support office activities such as scheduling, procurement, cost estimation, and document management. This role offers a dynamic learning experience for individuals passionate about pursuing a career in construction management or construction engineering.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with construction drawings and specifications is preferred.
  • Willingness to work both in the field and office environments.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces as required by construction site conditions.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to safely operate machinery and communicate with team members.
  • Physical dexterity to manipulate tools and equipment with precision.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with various construction crews to gain exposure to different trades and techniques.
  • Utilize Fieldwire software to complete daily logs, document jobsite activities, and capture progress photos.
  • Assist in the layout of buildings using surveying equipment such as total stations, rotary lasers, tape measures, plumb bobs, and 3D scanners.
  • Support the superintendent in conducting and leading jobsite meetings.
  • Interpret project blueprints under the guidance of the superintendent and execute plans to meet project schedules.
  • Prepare tools and equipment for daily tasks, ensuring proper maintenance and functionality.
  • Collaborate with the project superintendent to develop a 2-week lookahead schedule and communicate effectively with subcontractors.
  • Work closely with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Assist in the procurement phase by soliciting bids from subcontractors.
  • Prepare cost estimates for change requests and maintain change order logs.
  • Review Requests for Information (RFIs) and coordinate responses with project managers.
  • Review shop drawings and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Attend jobsite meetings with project managers to gain insights into project management processes.
  • Generate quantity takeoffs specific to project requirements.
  • Familiarize yourself with Fieldwire software by reviewing daily logs, updating documentation forms, and reviewing progress photos.
  • Participate in weekly project management department meetings to gain exposure to broader project planning and execution strategies.
