Project Engineer II - Structures

About The Position

RK&K is currently hiring a Structures Project Engineer to join our team in King of Prussia. As a member of our Structures team at RK&K you will play a pivotal role in the design and analysis of transportation structures. You should have state (Pennsylvania/PennDOT) and Turnpike (PTC) experience, be highly proactive, able to develop creative technical solutions, have a strong understanding of structural operations and hands-on experience with bridge design. This role requires expertise in applying AASHTO, Design Manual Part 4 - Structures, and other client standards. You will be responsible for project research, drawing development, engineering computations, analysis, quantity takeoffs, and preparing submittals to regulatory agencies. Mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with other disciplines and consultants are important aspects of this role.

Requirements

7 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on bridge design and transportation projects
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural focus including concrete and steel design
Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Pennsylvania
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
Strong understanding of applying industry standards including PennDOT Standards, AASHTO LRFD, etc.
Ability to adhere to strict QA/QC requirements
Multi-tasking, Innovative/Creative thinker and problem solver in a fast paced, team environment.
Previous experience working with PennDOT, PTC, local municipalities and counties
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with clients and stakeholders

Nice To Haves

Wide variety of structural design experience including new and rehabilitated bridges, retaining walls, and misc. other structures.
Experience coordinating or participating with the Design Team and Contractor during project execution.
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering

Responsibilities

Utilize expertise in structural engineering principles to design bridge and transportation structures that meet project requirements and adhere to regulatory standards
Perform structural analyses utilizing industry-standard software tools such as the PennDOT Design/Analysis Programs, MicroStation, Leap Bridge Concrete, AASHTOWare BrR, OpenBridge Designer, or similar programs.
Develop detailed design drawings for construction
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage bridge projects from inception through completion
Coordinate with contractors and regulatory agencies to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Maintain rigorous standards of quality and compliance with relevant codes and standards throughout the design and construction process
Conduct thorough reviews of design calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and safety
Cultivate strong relationships with clients by understanding their needs, communicating project progress effectively, and providing innovative solutions to address their challenges and requirements
Mentor junior staff as needed
