About The Position

Gonzalez Companies is a partner managed firm that provides comprehensive Planning, Design, and Construction Management Services to large and small Water, Sewer and Utility Districts; Departments of Transportation; and municipalities. We are currently seeking a Project Engineer (I/II) - Water/Wastewater to help serve our connection of clients and community. The projected range of compensation in Illinois for this job is $70,000 - $80,000.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering field.
  • EI/EIT certification required or ability to obtain within 12 months; PE track preferred.
  • 0–4 years of experience in water/wastewater design, permitting, or construction support.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools (WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, SWMM, etc.).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3D; experience with BIM/Revit is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of pump systems, process equipment, and utility design.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, design, and analysis of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, and related infrastructure.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, and specifications under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling for water distribution and sewer collection systems.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and occasional construction observation.
  • Support project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and proposals.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate project design elements.
  • Review design standards, regulatory requirements, and permitting needs.
  • Participate in client and internal project meetings; communicate technical information clearly.
  • Support quality control processes and ensure adherence to company and industry standards.
