About The Position

WSP Florida-Water is seeking a motivated Project Engineer(Construction) with expertise in water, wastewater treatment equipment and pump station systems. The ideal candidate will assist the Project and WSP Line Managers with project engineering, planning, design, permitting, construction oversight, testing, troubleshooting, and startup/commissioning. This role requires strong technical skills, a collaborative communication mindset to work effectively with multidisciplinary clients, project teams, installation contractors (all disciplines/trades), regulatory agencies, local jurisdictions, and equipment suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited college.
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida a plus.
  • Ability with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit , and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing substation and construction (e.g., AWWA, OSHA, ASCE, ASME, AWA, IEEE, API, NFPA, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager and Technical Discipline Leads in overseeing all aspects of a water/wastewater treatment plant and pump station from construction to commissioning stage. Experience in Ceramic Membrane Filtration, Automatic Strainers, Chemical Feed Systems, Submersible Pumps, High Service Pump Stations, Ground Water Storage Tanks is a plus.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams and external stakeholders to develop project action lists, review shop submittals, attend site meetings, perform major equipment inspections, and participate at construction site meetings.
  • Assist in preparing responses to contractors' Requests for Information (RFI), submittals, change notices, claims, and correspondences.
  • Review and evaluate engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents related to the construction and start/up commissioning phase.
  • Support the design and development of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipelines, and related infrastructure.
  • Conduct studies, assessments and fieldwork to gather data and evaluate during the project construction phase.
  • Develop technical reports and designs to support project proposals, cost estimates and construction.
  • Have a general understanding of treatment equipment and system Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT) and Performance Acceptance Testing (PAT)
  • Prepare the Treatment System O & M Manual and prepare training materials for Client Operator team.
  • Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of infrastructure (buildings), equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with project drawings, specifications, quality assurance and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate and sequence all contractor installation activities with the Client Engineering Plant and Operations personnel and their representative (CMAR).
  • Anticipate installation issues and suggest solutions to the Project Manager and Client Construction Lead(s).
  • Observe and confirm that all on-site contractor personnel are complying with Client site safety procedures.
  • Collect photographs during contractor work activities to document the work conducted.
  • Prepare and submit daily construction progress reports.
  • Conduct a final inspection of the completed installation and prepare a punch list detailing any deficiencies.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality assurance checks to verify the integrity and performance of installation contractors.
  • Address technical issues and resolve challenges encountered during the construction and operation phases of projects.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to electrical engineering, and substations.
  • Strong technical writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to water and wastewater treatment (FDEP, SFWMD, etc.).
