About The Position

Summary As a fully competent Registered Professional Engineer, a project engineer performs work involving the application of all conventional aspects of civil engineering to the functional area of the assignment. Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced civil engineering concepts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.
  • Five to eight years of progressive work experience within the civil engineering field.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the supervision, coordination, and technical direction of work of less experienced civil engineers and/or technical support personnel within his or her department.
  • Assists civil team lead or project manager in supervising the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies.
  • Resolves a variety of complex problems, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements) or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved civil engineering techniques or procedures to create new or refined equipment, materials, processes or methods.
  • Conducts constructability reviews or assists in the design, planning, and/or review phases of other civil engineering projects not assigned to the incumbent.
  • May serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams.
  • Attends “kick-off” and design review meetings, and interacts with clients as his or her level of experience progresses.
  • May be required to complete safety training courses relative to engineering project environments (i.e. fall protection, confined space entry, CPR/first aid, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, OSHA safety, or hazard communication).
  • Travel may be required to attend meetings, project sites, or other business-related functions as part of your job duties. When a company vehicle is unavailable, your personal vehicle shall be utilized.
  • Performs other duties assigned by a Project Manager, the Team Lead, or the Engineering Department Manager.
