About The Position

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is seeking a Project Director for the Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative, a critical role aimed at addressing the global biodiversity and climate crises. This position is flexible in location within countries where TNC operates as a registered NGO. The Project Director will lead the development and implementation of various PFP projects, such as those in Mongolia and the Great Bear Sea, ensuring that these projects secure durable conservation outcomes. The role involves managing complex, cross-functional teams and requires a strong commitment to collaboration with government entities and local communities to ensure project success. As the Project Director, you will be responsible for the overall quality and strategic direction of assigned projects, ensuring that they meet the desired conservation outcomes. This includes overseeing the technical aspects of the projects, such as conservation planning, community development, governance, finance, and government engagement. You will work closely with TNC's country and regional teams, as well as other stakeholders, to foster strong relationships and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires a proactive approach to project management, including assessing project scope and objectives, identifying risks, and implementing corrective actions as necessary. You will also be responsible for obtaining necessary approvals and communicating project status to all stakeholders. The role demands a high level of strategic decision-making, negotiation skills, and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, including government officials and community leaders. Additionally, the Project Director will need to be comfortable working across multiple time zones and may be required to travel up to 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally, including occasional weekends and evenings.
