About The Position

ICF seeks an on-call Project Director – Education Research to work within our Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB) Line of Business. This role leads teams in executing research-based technical assistance, training, and coaching to education stakeholders. The Project Director – Education Research will bring a combination of expertise in research, researcher-practitioner partnerships, and project management to ensure the success of our initiatives. This role requires understanding of research/evaluation strategies, methodologies, and analytic approaches, and is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with clients and colleagues. Key Responsibilities As a Project Director – Education Research you will work with clients such as the U.S. Department of Education as well as state and local educational and human services agencies to provide high-quality services and products. Key project tasks may include: Leading and managing large-scale projects. Planning and executing research-based technical assistance, training, and coaching to education stakeholders. Conducting peer-reviewed education research studies using causal and correlational research designs. Establishing and maintaining connections with policy makers and education stakeholders. Adhering to project schedules, keeping costs within budget, and managing the work of subcontractors. Communicating complex scientific and technical information in a user-friendly and intuitive manner. Meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders with varied interests.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Education, Public Policy, Social Science, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in education research and/or evaluation
  • Proven experience in planning and executing research-based technical assistance, training, and coaching.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting peer-reviewed education research studies using causal and correlational research designs.
  • Demonstrated established connections with state policymakers and education stakeholders.
  • Experience leading, managing, and supervising staff.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex scientific and technical concepts into clear, accessible language.
  • Proven ability to manage project schedules, control budgets, and oversee subcontractor work effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Collaborative team leader and partner with demonstrated success navigating competing priorities, varied perspectives, and an array of stakeholder needs.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a consistent track record of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards, including maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding proprietary information.
  • Skilled at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced, dynamic settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience collaborating with a broad range of stakeholder groups in roles such as participant, content advisor, and technical assistance provider.
  • Deep content knowledge of PreK–20 education policies and programs in the United States.
  • Prior experience working within state and federal consulting environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in consultative collaboration with clients— identifying needs, delivering tailored services, and incorporating feedback into project deliverables.
  • Interest in, and experience with, business development activities, including capture efforts and proposal writing.
