About The Position

BWXT's Technical Services Group (TSG) is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support project planning, cost control, and reporting for complex projects within the nuclear sector. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure projects are executed efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. Location: This position is based at our main office in Lynchburg, Virginia; however, remote or hybrid work arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in contracting, preferably government, with broad expertise in estimating, cost analysis, project management, project controls, cost management and other related fields.
  • Understanding of staffing requirements and resource planning to support effective team composition and project execution.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and effective presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistency, with a reputation for delivering results efficiently and being a trusted contributor.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance(s); U.S. Citizenship may be required depending on the clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in regulated environments with an understanding of industry-specific standards and protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and an advanced Excel user
  • Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, CAPM)
  • Experience with SAP is desirable
  • Experience working with Canadian regulatory bodies and a strong understanding of Canadian contracting standards is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate and forecast project costs and resource requirements for specific initiatives.
  • Design and implement systems to track project costs and progress, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and expenditures to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with contractual and organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with team members and other stakeholders to explain estimates, results, and methodologies used in analysis.
  • Coordinate information flow between functional groups, including engineering, purchasing, project management, accounting, human resources, and leadership.
  • Evaluate company policies, industry standards, and contract requirements to ensure alignment with project controls procedures.
  • Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
  • Conduct variance analysis and recommend adjustments to maintain project efficiency and performance.
  • Assess cost and schedule impacts of project changes and update estimates and forecasts accordingly.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on project status, cost analysis, and resource planning to stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement improvements in estimating, planning, and cost control techniques.
