About The Position

The Project Controls Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Project Controls Manager and Construction Team by managing technical and administrative functions to ensure efficient operations within the Construction organization. This position requires strong initiative and critical thinking skills to handle assignments with minimal guidance, prioritize tasks, and maintain high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience with accounting and job costing is required.
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project.
  • Knowledge of construction industry vocabulary and terms is preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the company's driving policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving record, and background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of job costing and accounting procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer-based construction and scheduling programs preferred.
  • Ability to work on a team with other construction professionals.
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Controls Manager with overall company financials for all construction projects.
  • Facilitate and participate in the monthly financial close-out program, including projections, future work tracking, and work in progress (WIP) reviews.
  • Assist with forensic review of financials to identify and correct accounting errors.
  • Monitor and modify project budgets, cost projections, cost allocations, and cost tracking for construction projects.
  • Communicate cost alterations to project teams.
  • Manage revenue by ensuring invoices are prepared accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assist with tracking capital purchases and monitoring depreciation schedules.
  • Monitor and update project control systems, tracking costs and percent-to-completion.
  • Analyze project expenditures and propose changes for more efficient operations.
  • Assist with the development of technical approaches for responding to RFPs.
  • Collaborate with the Contracts Manager on contract/subcontract agreements.
  • Assist with setting up new projects with accounting and electronic project files.
  • Ensure contracts/subcontracts are filed in project files.
  • Code subcontract/vendor invoices and track against subcontracts or purchase orders.
  • Participate in updating and maintaining project schedules.
  • Assist with conducting vendor and internal audits of database records.
  • Visit project sites to help manage project financials.
  • Assist with company in-house training and administration for Excel, Heavy Job, and Costpoint.
  • Act as a liaison between corporate accounting and project offices.
