About The Position

Adolfson and Peterson Construction is currently hiring for a Project Controller. Initially, this role will be assigned to a large data center project located in Fargo, ND. The individual hired into this role may work remotely, though, will be expected to travel to the provide site for approximately 1 week per month. This position will support projects in all accounting and finance functions. The Project Controller plays an important role in areas such as cost control, cash flow management, accounts payable and receivable, profit projections and analysis, financial risk mitigation, and contract compliance. The Project Controller will be a key part of the month end close process, assisting in preparing the financial reporting for the project management team.

Requirements

  • History of progressively more complex experience with proven results including:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, and/or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of project account experience. Data center experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including experience creating financial analysis for business decision support.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Viewpoint Spectrum, Oracle TPM, and construction project management tools.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards
  • Experience in driving accountability for financial and operational effectiveness, integrating and aligning efforts within teams, monitoring results, and tackling problems directly.
  • Effective communication, organization, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and driving change.
  • This position may work remotely but is required to be onsite at the project location at least once per month during the project duration.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
  • Prepare cost-plus, lump sum, or GMP contract billings, with required backup as needed.
  • Manage pay application review process. Work with project team to generate timely billing and ensure stakeholders provide timely approvals resulting in favorable project cash flows.
  • Assist project manager with budget management and analysis and preparation of monthly financial projections, including potential cost issues. Proactively identify project issues and ensure contract and budget compliance.
  • Ensure all project costs (equipment, material, labor, etc..) are processed correctly and review non-reimbursable costs for proper coding. Track billing receipts and costs against budget and forecast.
  • Conduct ongoing project cost analysis identifying trends and insights. Using analysis and trend data, prepare monthly financial reporting for project team and leadership.
  • Be prepared to respond to project-related audit requests from the owner or external auditor.
  • Participate in subcontractor prequalification process and coordinate with the project team to ensure compliance with AP subcontractor risk mitigation standards.
  • Provide oversight to project coordinators including assistance with subcontractor management, lien waiver collection, billing backup support, contract change orders, etc.
  • Participate in monthly CORE meetings to effectively communicate state of project financials to the leadership team.
