About the position

As the Project Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of assigned projects through effective budget management, timely reporting, cost management, and financial forecasting. This role requires collaboration with project managers, contractors, and the finance team to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with financial and contractual requirements. You will also lead the Project Accountants in accounting administration, cost reporting, and audit participation, while providing leadership in hiring, training, and performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Execute compliance with Builder's Lien Act, holdback requirements, payment processes, contract terms, and project closeouts.
  • Collaborate with project management team to complete monthly management reviews and deliver accurate cost reports.
  • Prepare and present performance summaries and executive-level project progress reports to leadership.
  • Develop and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines and project goals.
  • Manage cost and profitability reporting for projects, ensuring alignment with key performance metrics.
  • Guide team in preparing LEMs, invoices, and progress claims, ensuring adherence to approval processes and contract terms.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports and information to Project Management & Operations teams as required.
  • Investigate financial anomalies and inquiries, providing interpretation and resolution as required.
  • Lead and train Project Accountants and Senior Project Accountants, fostering continuous learning and performance excellence.
  • Provide subject matter guidance on financial systems and guide the implementation of process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Post-secondary business degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of contractual, legal, and commercial terms related to the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods and accounting principles.
  • Financial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, and profitability analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, able to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience with construction administration and contract commercial terms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant industry experience and JD Edwards experience would be an asset.
