GFT is seeking a Bridge Project Engineer to join our Transportation Team in the Chicagoland Area ! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Chicago or Schaumburg, IL o ffice. What you’ll be challenged to do: This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Bridge Engineer to engage in structural design, rehabilitation, analysis and load rating of bridges as well as the inspection of bridges and tunnels, preparation of construction documents, specifications, and estimates. Day-to-day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by Project Managers and Senior Project Engineers. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.
  • A minimum of 8 years' professional bridge design experience.
  • Experience in new bridge design, bridge rehabilitation, load ratings and/or inspection of bridges.
  • Experience with structural design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Midas 3D Civil, STAAD Pro, MDX, CSiBridge, Larsa and/or other structural analysis software and applications such as MathCAD.
  • Working knowledge of reading plans and shop drawings and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in bridge design assignments involving contract plans preparation and specifications, design calculations, calculation of quantities and development of cost estimates.
  • Performing load rating analyses and preparation of load rating reports.
  • Office support for construction support services.
  • Performing bridge and tunnel inspections and preparation of inspection reports.
  • Reviewing shop drawing submittals.
  • Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction phase of projects.
  • Assist or participate in the preparation of business proposals.
