About The Position

Weld America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking Welders to support project-based assignments in various locations. This position will require frequent travel. Weld together metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment. Select and execute the best method to prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter. Clean, degrease, deoxidize, or de-smut weld joint or work piece, using wire brush, portable grinder, or solvent clean/chemical bath as needed. Weld completion accomplished in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions for at least three base materials using a wide variety of processes. Lay out work from blueprints for various tasks including plates for shearing, burning, angles for punching, drilling patterns, and more. Inspect work for proper fit-up and adequate cleanliness for welding. Locate materials, fabricate and install from blueprints various structures and components. Operate and set up various equipment including hydraulic jacks, pneumatic tools, and cutting machines. Perform multi-pass, all position fillet and groove welds using various welding processes. Train less-skilled welders and perform comprehensive workmanship inspections.

Requirements

  • Must have technical training and at least 3 years experience in Welding.
  • Must be certified to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using various welding processes.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of welding techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Must have expert knowledge of hand tools and instruments associated with the trade.
  • Must be proficient in reading blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • Must have hands-on experience with heavy metal steel welding procedures.
  • Must have basic mechanical knowledge and skills.
  • Must be able to enter and move through manholes and climb ladders.
  • Must pass the J-1 vision test and respirator fit test.

Nice To Haves

  • Shipfitting experience highly preferred.
