About The Position

Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) research facility and one of the nation's most respected research centers focused on mental health, is recruiting a Respiratory Therapist/Polysomnographic Technologist to join their new established Sleep Clinic where they will perform diagnostic sleep testing, therapeutic interventions, and patient care. This is an overnight shift: 8:00pm - 8:00am. NKI is a state-operated research facility located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, New York, approximately 20 miles north of New York City. NKI has earned both a national and international reputation for its landmark contributions in psychiatric research, especially in areas of psychopharmacological treatments for schizophrenia and major mood disorders, dementia research, clinical trials methodology, neuroimaging, therapeutic drug monitoring, and the application of computer technology to mental health services. Since 1952, interdisciplinary teams of distinguished Research Scientists have applied their expertise to study the causes, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of severe and persistent mental illnesses. NKI also has a strong academic affiliation with the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. As the Respiratory Therapist/Polysomnographic Technologist, you will be responsible for 1. Patient Care: Preparing participants for overnight sleep studies, which may involve informed consent as well as explaining procedures, applying sensors (EEG, EOG, EMG, etc.), and monitoring patient safety throughout the study. Providing basic assistance during the study (e.g., troubleshooting participant discomfort, use of the restroom, etc). 2. Equipment Usage: Setting up and calibrating Polysomnographic (PSG) equipment and other devices used for sleep and physiological data collection. Conducting quality checks and maintaining lab equipment. 3. Data Collection and Processing: Recording, scoring, and analyzing PSG data. Performing quality control on home monitors, actigraphy, and other secondary data collected.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, and
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification or
  • Current NYS Polysomnographic Technologist Authorization or NYS Respiratory Therapist License.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience in Polysomnography preferred.
