About the position

The Project Architect is responsible for the development of construction documents and the technical execution of the design. They ensure that the project design is accurately interpreted, detailed, and delivered, typically working under the direction of a Design Project Manager or Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Translate design concepts into buildable construction documents.
  • Develop site plans, floor plans, elevations, details, and specifications.
  • Participate in early design phases such as schematic design and design development.
  • Ensure drawings are code-compliant, coordinated, and meet all technical requirements.
  • Resolve technical issues and interface with consultants (MEP, structural, civil) to ensure coordination.
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and assist with shop drawing reviews during the construction administration phase.
  • Attend OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings as needed.
  • Conduct in-house quality reviews of drawings and documents.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with firm and client standards.
  • Guide junior architects and drafters.
  • Collaborate closely with other architects, engineers, and design team members.

Requirements

  • Architecture license (in any U.S. state), with the need to acquire a California license if relocating.
  • 5-10+ years of architectural experience, preferably in commercial, federal/military, or institutional projects.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD (preferred), and construction documentation.
  • Three or more years' experience in preparing Architect-Engineer (A/E) Indefinite Delivery.

Nice-to-haves

  • OSHPD / HCAI experience.
  • Department of Defense (DoD) project experience.
  • Familiarity with federal design standards (UFC, NAVFAC, etc.) is a strong asset.
  • Three or more years' experience with project Programming and developing Concept/Schematic designs is preferred.
  • Specific software literacy (Sketchup) highly desired.
  • Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and MS Visio preferred, but not required.
  • Adobe Suite, Navisworks.
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture required.
  • Architecture license (preferred or in-progress).
