Bowers + Kubota Consulting is seeking a motivated Project Architect to join our team. The Project Architect may hold the primary responsibility of executing the design with a high level of quality and technical completeness of work. Project Architects plan, organize, and/or supervise the work of staff engineers, architects and technicians in the design and construction stage of small to medium sized projects. They foster positive relationships within the entire team both internal and external and may participate in managing interactions with clients to define scope and project goals, negotiate contract terms, then meet and exceed client expectations. This position will require a combination of strong design skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to guide and be a mentor to junior team members.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Architecture with minimum 5 years of experience.
Minimum 2 years of self-managing project(s) experience with minimal guidance.
Architecture license is required.
Strong knowledge of codes, guidelines and regulations applicable to architecture projects including but not limited to Zoning, IBC, ADA, Hawaii Energy Code including local amendments.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment and strong communication within these teams.
Extensive experience with computer-aided design/drafting programs (Revit required).
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites applications.
Able to read, understand, and interpret Construction Drawings across all disciplines.
Working understanding of project delivery methods and process.
Working understanding of contract types and ability to properly administer the contract obligations.
Ability to develop programs, initial design concepts, and establish project goals.
Self-starter and self-learner with initiative and strong follow-though.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to come up with timely and efficient solutions to complex problems and issues.
Ability to lead a team (internal and external) and organize the team around a common goal a plus.
Ability to multitask multiple projects and teams with exceptional organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Project Management software (i.e., Deltek) is a plus.
Working knowledge and familiarity with projects within the public sector preferred with private sector a plus.
LEED AP designation highly preferred.
Ability to lead a team (internal and external) and organize the team around a common goal a plus.

Responsibilities

Constant and consistent communication and reporting to Project Managers.
Coordination with client, subconsultants, and internal team.
Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, and timelines for smaller projects and assist Project Manager for larger more complex projects.
Foster positive client relationships and maintain consistent communication as assigned or under the oversight of Project Managers.
Plan, organize, direct, and manage project team activities for smaller projects and assist Project Manager for larger more complex projects within the terms set in the projects contract.
Pursue on-time completion within budget through stages of the project.
Coordinate and produce accurate and complete Bid and Construction packages including but not limited to: Project schedules, product selection, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, basis of design, meeting minutes, construction administration, and other miscellaneous reports and documents.
Assist with Leading and motivating cross-functional project teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
Set positive examples and provide mentorship and guidance to expand the skillsets of all team members.
Assist with delegating tasks and responsibilities to team members based on strengths and expertise.
Assist with defining and controlling project scope, budget, and schedule while minimizing scope creep.
Assist with monitoring project financials including but not limited to project expenses, manpower projections, identify cost-saving/efficiency opportunities, and periodic project financial reports on budget performance.
Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies in a proactive manner.
Proactively address issues to prevent project delays and setbacks.
Participate and support Change Management initiatives which may include planning, training and support, monitoring, reinforcement and enforcement of procedures and standards.
Assist in reviewing Requests for Proposals, preparing fees and contracts, and monitoring project billing.
Interact with building officials during project permitting and construction phases.
Maintain project manual and conduct and document on-site observations and reviews.
Performs other related duties if nnecessary.
