About The Position

The Project Architect leads the technical development, coordination, and documentation for medium- to large-scale architectural projects. The role oversees project quality, code compliance, consultant coordination, and technical problem-solving from design development through construction documents. It also includes supervising team members, managing technical workflows, resolving agency approval issues, and ensuring project deliverables meet contractual, budget, and quality expectations. An architectural license is required to hold the Project Architect title. This position is located in Portland, Oregon and will support Bassetti Architects, a design studio of HMC Architects. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays.

Requirements

  • Degree in architecture, interior design, civil engineering, construction management, or Revit drafting (preferred).
  • Licensed Architect (required for Project Architect title).
  • Minimum 7 years of architectural practice with strong technical proficiency in all documentation phases.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, delegate tasks, and keep supervisors/clients updated.
  • Understanding of contracts, fee calculations, and scope management.
  • Strong judgment, decision-making skills, and ability to prioritize/manage work efficiently.
  • Must follow company standards, protocols, and quality expectations.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical development, design development, and construction document phases of mediumlarge projects.
  • Resolve technical, code, and agency approval issues; direct and coordinate consultants.
  • Supervise and manage up to four project team members across all phases.
  • Monitor team performance, provide coaching, conduct evaluations.
  • Coordinate project documentation, quality reviews, and compliance checks at all stages.
  • Collaborate with design, production, construction admin, and external consultants.
  • Manage coordination with government agencies and resolve plan check/approval issues.
  • Review cost estimates, conduct value analysis, and approve project changes.
  • Assist with work plans, schedules, budgets, staffing projections, and billing.
  • Lead or participate in client, consultant, and OAC meetings.
