About The Position

Baker Barrios Architects (BBA) is seeking a highly skilled Project Architect – Healthcare to join our team. This role is ideal for a licensed architect with extensive experience in the technical and design execution of healthcare projects. The Project Architect will be involved in complex healthcare project delivery from concept through construction, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with client goals. As a member of the architectural team, this individual will serve as a subject-matter expert in healthcare design, working closely with project managers, medical planners, consultants, and client stakeholders to translate clinical needs into safe, functional, and future-forward environments.

Requirements

  • A professional degree in architecture is required. A licensed architect with healthcare project experience is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of architectural experience, with significant healthcare project exposure
  • Proven ability to lead technical development and document production for healthcare facilities
  • Strong understanding of healthcare codes, AHCA requirements, FGI Guidelines, and life safety standards
  • Experience with construction administration for healthcare environments
  • Strong technical and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Revit and other design/production tools
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the oversight of architectural development of healthcare projects of varying scales, including hospitals, outpatient centers, specialty clinics, surgical facilities, and medical office buildings. Guide teams through all phases—from conceptual design through construction administration.
  • Assist with the oversight of the production of high-quality construction documents. Ensure compliance with FGI Guidelines, NFPA 101, AHCA review processes, ADA standards, and other healthcare-specific codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with medical planners, engineers, equipment planners, and facility leadership to ensure alignment of clinical workflows, medical technology, and patient-centered design principles.
  • Support and elevate the design vision while integrating technical and functional requirements. Ensure that design intent is preserved throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead construction administration for healthcare projects, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, conducting site visits, and resolving field conditions.
  • Partner with Project Managers to provide technical insight to clients. Participate in client work sessions and presentations, offering expert guidance on healthcare design and technical decisions.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and support to project team members. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the advancement of technical standards, quality control processes, and healthcare design best practices within the firm.
