About The Position

You'll collaborate with a dynamic team of scientists, historians, and conservationists, turning fragments of the past into stories that shape our understanding of the present. The Project Archaeologist serves as a close aid to the Principal Investigator. They are also responsible for the successful design, execution, and completion of cultural resource surveys and reporting. This person may be supervise other staff on a variety of tasks and/or coordinate with them for the completion of project deliverables. This person may be asked to review and QA/QC field data, coordinate with GIS personnel for appropriate data exports and figures, complete portions of, or entire cultural resource background reviews, scopes of work, investigation results reports and/or consultation letters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, related field or completion of accredited field school.
  • Master’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or another related field preferred.
  • 3-5+ years experience including both field work (survey and supervisory roles) and office work (data review/manipulation, short reports, full results reports, consultation/cover letters, etc.).
  • Ability to travel 75% or more.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit increased experience and/or mastery over same skill as field director.
  • Complete site forms for submission to state agencies.
  • Submit relevant GIS requests for both pre- and post-field data collection and report figure needs.
  • Ensure project areas in GIS portal are accurate prior to discussion with field director or crews.
  • QA/QC final data sets and all figures received from GIS.
  • Write DRAFT cultural resources desktop assessments, consultation letters, and Phase I survey reports for review by P.I.
  • Coordinate completion of data entry-level report components with other staff if necessary.
  • Assist field director with questions as needed or direct them to P.I.
  • Assist with any Phase II or Phase III investigations under direct supervision of P.I.
  • Read state and federal regulations to determine applicable requirements for projects.
