A day in the life You step into a well-organized toolroom, review a new set of prints, and plan how to build a precision fixture that will keep production humming. Before lunch, you’re on a lathe and mill, dialing in tolerances on a complex die component. Later, you’re troubleshooting a stamping issue with production, testing a repaired jig, and documenting updates so the next run is even smoother. This is how you’ll make an impact—designing, building, repairing, and maintaining the tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures that power our manufacturing operations and quality standards. What you’ll tackle Design, fabricate, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures to engineering and production specifications. Set up and run lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment to produce high-accuracy components. Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to define requirements and plan fabrication steps. Inspect and test tools and dies to verify quality, dimensional accuracy, and safe operation. Diagnose and correct tool, die, and equipment issues to minimize downtime. Perform routine maintenance and adjustments to sustain tool performance over time. Partner with engineering and production to resolve tooling challenges and increase throughput. Record specifications, maintenance, and repair history with clear, accurate documentation. Follow safety protocols and use required PPE when operating equipment and handling tooling. Keep the toolroom orderly to maintain a safe, efficient work environment. Contribute ideas to continuous improvement of tool design, performance, and manufacturing processes. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
