About The Position

The University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital is seeking a high-level Veterinary Technician to serve as a Progressive Care Ward Supervisor. This role is for a "Floor-First Leader" who excels in mentoring staff bedside, mastering advanced clinical cases, and advocating for patients and nursing teams. The ideal candidate believes in "Just Culture," clinical excellence, and leading by example, and will be an integral part of the ICU leadership team. The position offers opportunities for true mentorship, clinical mastery with advanced nursing and cutting-edge ECC protocols, and the chance to partner directly with the ECC Director to foster a world-class, positive, and accountable work environment. The supervisor will oversee the specialist Progressive Care Ward and Critical Isolation area, ensuring the highest "Gold Standard" of care is consistently met.

Requirements

  • Credentialed veterinary technician
  • Four years of experience in veterinary emergency medicine
  • Belief in "Just Culture," clinical excellence, and leading by example
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs
  • Ability to bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time

Nice To Haves

  • Mastery of advanced veterinary nursing skills, medical terminology, and anatomy, specifically within Progressive Care, ICU, or Emergency specialty services
  • Ability to operate hospital management software and administrative systems (e.g., Instinct, Cornerstone, PeopleSoft)
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Direct experience in staff mentorship, clinical training, conducting performance appraisals, and conflict resolution using "Just Culture" principles
  • A proven track record of independent decision-making and the ability to apply complex problem-solving strategies in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the equipment, materials, and stringent infection control protocols (Isolation) required for a specialist ward
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ward supplies and personnel hours effectively to ensure departmental efficiency without direct budget oversight
