About The Position

Benchmark Senior Living at Split Rock in Shelton, CT is looking a Programming Coordinator for our Memory Care Neighborhood. Shift will be Tuesday - Saturday, 9AM to 5PM. Should be flexible to evenings and holidays if needed. Job Summary: The Programming Coordinator is responsible for, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the programs and services for residents with cognitive impairment, based on the six dimensions of wellness: to provide a meaningful and purposeful routine aiming to maintain each resident’s highest level of physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and dementia.
  • Must be qualified by experience and training to develop a robust calendar of programs for elders and persons living with dementia.
  • Possesses current CPR if required.
  • Ability to train and motivate others.
  • Clearly understands the mission and vision of Benchmark Senior Living.
  • Understands the aging process.
  • Demonstrates high-level skill in planning appropriate activities programs.
  • Shows an ability to relate to and perform job functions for the elderly in a positive, enthusiastic,and efficient manner.
  • Flexible schedule – willing to work on weekends and holidays
  • The Programming Coordinator role is only in Harbor. Pursues educational development in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
  • Possesses training and knowledge of Alzheimer’s and related disorders.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the emotional stress of having a loved one with dementia by responding professionally and sensitively to the family’s needs and requests.

Responsibilities

  • Implements events and activities to enhance the memory support experience and improve the resident quality of life.
  • Evaluates programs to insure the quality matches the interests and abilities of all residents.

  • Monthly family-centered activities held on a consistent basis to promote participation and ease in scheduling.
  • Responsible for leading and implementing one-on-one, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule.
  • Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups.
  • Supports the resident’s abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity.
  • Produces an online and printable quality monthly newsletter and calendar and daily activity calendar on a timely basis, through Benchmark’s selected engagement application.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding residents’ life story, background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability.
  • Communicates any changes in the resident’s condition or behavior pattern to the Director or Nurse.
  • Maintains contracts, documentation and schedules all entertainment vendors, volunteers, community organizations, and programming resources.
  • Records and analyzes resident involvement and participation in activities.
  • Complies with all QRS standards for activities and programing.
  • Develops programs that maximize resident participation and motivates residents to take advantage of program offerings.
  • Surveys new and existing residents to continually develop programs based on their interests.
  • Creates new programming considering newest Dementia/Alzheimer’s developments (pet therapy, intergenerational programming, group story telling, etc.).
  • Prepares and implements Benchmark Signature Programs per set standards
  • Shows familiarity and experience using a wide variety of equipment related to recreational activities of elders and persons living with dementia, including, but not limited to, arts and craft supplies, audio and visual devices, online resources, and other technology based programs.
  • Coordinates a Resident Council meeting monthly (modified as appropriate) to identify residents preferences, interests and goals and incorporates into program design.
  • Participates in training as required by Benchmark and state regulations.
