About The Position

The Programmer Analyst plays a vital role in supporting the university’s mission by developing and maintaining data-driven solutions that inform decision-making and improve operational efficiency. This position is responsible for designing SQL-based data processes, creating and maintaining interactive Power BI dashboards, and ensuring that data is accurate, consistent, and accessible for reporting across academic and administrative units. Working closely with faculty, staff, and university leadership, the Programmer Analyst gathers business requirements, translates them into technical specifications, and delivers solutions that turn complex data into actionable insights. The role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This position reports to the Director of Applications and Integrations and collaborates with IT colleagues, institutional researchers, and data stewards to ensure reporting systems align with the university’s strategic goals, compliance requirements, and technology standards.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with programming/development technology such as XML, JSON, ASP Classic, VBS, C#, SQL, HTML, CSS, Python, JavaScript, and Powershell
  • Familiarity with Web APIs and SFTP is a plus
  • Collaborate with and support team members and staff in other administrative offices and academic units
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including documentation and training for end-users and students
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Be proactive in providing superior customer service to staff and students
  • Have a strong desire to analyze, diagnose, and address highly complex technical issues while being flexible and maintaining critical thinking and excellent communication under pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a university or higher education environment
  • Advanced knowledge of database design, performance tuning, and automation
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Oracle, or Google Cloud)
  • Skills in scripting or automation (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
  • Experience with institutional reporting for accreditation, enrollment management, or student success initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Assists the University in implementing the statement of purpose
  • Assists the University in implementing the strategic technology plan
  • Assists in the annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the Information Technology Department
  • Assists in the management of the day-to-day operations of the student information system
  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL queries, procedures, and ETL processes to support university reporting needs
  • Build and manage Power BI dashboards and reports to deliver clear, actionable insights for academic and administrative units
  • Integrate data from multiple systems and external sources using APIs and web services
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and administrators to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and security of institutional data in compliance with FERPA and university policies
  • Monitor and optimize database and reporting performance, troubleshooting issues as needed
  • Document processes and contribute to the improvement of reporting standards and data workflows
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues, researchers, and leadership to support strategic initiatives such as enrollment management, accreditation, and student success
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Applications and Integrations of Chief Information Officer
