This role is an opportunity to drive innovation across key areas including education, youth and teen engagement, camps, arts and culture, and community programming, while aligning closely with our broader organizational strategy. The ideal candidate brings both big-picture thinking and operational excellence, with a passion for building meaningful, high-impact experiences that deepen community connection and engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, nonprofit management, Jewish communal service or related field is required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience with demonstrated success overseeing programs, managing budgets, and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative programs that generate revenue and meet community needs, and to cultivate partnerships and collaborations.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with ability to develop budgets and align program metrics with organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and represent Shalom Austin to board members, donors, and the community.
  • Passion for Shalom Austin’s mission and enthusiasm for Jewish community life.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a cohesive vision for Shalom Austin’s programs consistent with its mission; set and drive programmatic goals with clear priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop program budgets, aligning program strategy with financial sustainability and revenue generation.
  • Use data and metrics to evaluate program performance, along with implementing systems to track attendance, satisfaction and outcomes, report metrics to leadership and the board.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote programs and expand reach to Greater Austin community.
  • Work with program directors to identify community needs, explore avenues to expand reach and develop programmatic responses that deepen engagement.
  • Support development and volunteer engagement by coordinating with marketing and development teams to share program stories and cultivate donors and volunteers.
  • Oversee Early Childhood Program, ensuring high-quality curricula, staffing, compliance and evaluation; identify community needs and innovations to enhance impact.
  • Lead Shalom Austin’s strategy for Israel engagement and Jewish peoplehood, ensuring meaningful opportunities for the community to connect with Israel in ways that meet people where they are and deepen awareness and connection.
  • Provide executive oversight of JCamps and After-School programs, delivering engaging, mission-aligned youth experiences while achieving enrollment goals, financial sustainability, and program excellence.
  • Lead Arts & Culture programming including cultural arts, Austin Jewish Film Festival and expanding the arts & culture offerings.
  • Strengthen other program areas (e.g., community engagement, wellness, older adult services) by developing new initiatives to reach underserved populations and respond to emerging trends.
  • Partner on all Shalom Austin signature events, collaborating across departments to support planning and execution while ensuring alignment with the events goals.
  • Supervise the Senior Director of Early Childhood, JCamps Director, Program Manager, and staff affiliated with the international Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) partnership; set clear expectations while coaching and mentoring leaders to foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Executive Team, contributing to an integrated leadership approach and maintaining a broad, organization-wide perspective on Shalom Austin’s strategy and success.
  • Represent Shalom Austin in the community at a senior professional level, building strategic relationships and collaborations with local organizations, schools, and synagogues.
  • Establish and manage program budgets, monitor financial performance, and adjust strategies to achieve revenue and impact goals.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, licensing and safety standards across program sites; coordinate with facilities, security, and operations teams.
