About The Position

The Property and Casualty Underwriter is responsible for managing a portfolio of accounts and driving new and renewal business opportunities for Property and Casualty insurance. This role involves assessing risks, evaluating applications, analyzing data, and determining coverage terms and premiums to ensure sound underwriting decisions. The underwriter develops and maintains underwriting practices and guidelines while building relationships with brokers and stakeholders in the designated portfolio.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses.

Nice To Haves

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites new and renewal property and casualty business, analyzing policy forms and broker endorsement requests as per company underwriting standards.
  • Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of coverage value, location, usage, and safety features.
  • Determines appropriate coverage limits, insurance premiums, policy terms, and conditions based on risk assessment and underwriting guidelines.
  • Delivers services for new property and casualty business and renewals while demonstrating professionalism and technical knowledge.
  • Examines, identifies, and evaluates exposures ensuring compliance with state and country laws and guidelines established by carriers.
  • Provides premium forecasts and business plans to support budget and performance targets.
  • Maintains existing broker relationships and collaborates across teams to manage production activities such as submissions, quotes, and issuance.
  • Builds professional, long-term relationships in the designated portfolio and partners with brokers to create customized insurance solutions.
  • Creates opportunities for new business, maximizes retention of assigned portfolio, and ensures timely review of renewal business.
  • Executes marketing activities, attends seminars and training, and stays informed about market dynamics and underwriting trends.
