About the Position: OPTIONAL: Applicants hired into this position who are not currently VA state government employees are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire with signature of a 12-month agreement. Applicants hired into this position who are currently working for VA state government are eligible for a $5,000 retention bonus after 10 months of successful service with signature of an agreement for an additional 12 months of service. Classified Applicants hired into this position who are already working in VSP’s Firearms Transaction Center (Dept 041000), or Dispatcher function are not eligible for either a sign-on bonus upon hire or a retention bonus after 10 months. The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: • Locating, interpreting and analyzing criminal history record information to determine lawful eligibility under state and federal law for persons to purchase or receive a firearm from any federally licensed firearms dealer or for a Virginia Nonresident Concealed Handgun Permit in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requirements

  • Of state and federal criminal history databases Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
  • Of statistical analysis and to apply policies and procedures when making recommendations.
  • In the use of Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, Exchange/Outlook and basic computer operations.
  • To apply research and analytical methodology in the interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information.
  • To write and communicate effectively in English orally and in writing with staff, Department officials and the public as required.
  • To work independently and as a member of a team.
  • To access, retrieve, and interpret state and federal automated records.
  • Direct experience associated with VCIN/NCIC.
  • Demonstrated experience in retrieval and interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information.
  • Requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
