About The Position

Performs routine administrative and supervisory program work. Work involves assisting in establishing program goals and objectives; assisting in developing program guidelines, policies, and procedures; assisting in developing schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving program goals; assisting in evaluating program activities; and supervising the work of others. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required three years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three years full-time, wage-earning technical program support, program administration, or criminal justice administration experience.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policy and procedures training from the Texas Department of Public Safety within six months of employment date.
  • Must meet and maintain TLETS access eligibility for continued employment in position.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and management.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in administrative problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs.
  • Skill to train and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 15-44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the supervision of employees preferred.
  • Parole administration or criminal justice experience preferred.
  • Computer operations experience preferred.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs preferred.
  • Skill to type 45 words per minute (with no more than 10 errors) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists management in the planning and execution of an agency program; coordinates work with departments of the agency; assists in the development of administrative and technical assistance policies and procedures; and reviews and seeks solutions to problems.
  • Coordinates and reviews parole board documentation; assists in the preparation of statistical and technical reports and studies, and specialized research projects; assists in conducting specialized investigations and program analysis; and edits reports and special publications.
  • Assists in the preparation of training and operational manuals and educational materials; confers with staff on program issues and problems; provides training and technical assistance to program staff; and provides liaison with other departments, agencies, and organizations.
  • Trains and supervises the work of others; and monitors compliance with agency and departmental policies and procedures. E. Performs criminal information searches and retrieval using Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history system access.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
