JOB SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, this position support the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary curriculum, including needs assessments and pre- and post-assessments, for high school students from underrepresented backgrounds. Deliver high-quality classroom instruction in assigned academic subjects, evaluate individual student needs, and provide targeted tutoring and academic support as necessary. Course content is designed to be dynamic, engaging, and student-centered, emphasizing project-based learning, collaboration, and teamwork while incorporating multicultural perspectives. Mentors foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation, promotes student engagement, and demonstrates a strong commitment to helping students achieve academic success.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, Science, English, or a related discipline.
Minimum two (2) years teaching experience in the specific subject matter, preferred.
Previous experience in teaching or tutoring, preferably with high school students from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional strategies tailored to meet the needs of disadvantaged youth.
Familiarity with college admissions processes, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
Strong interpersonal skills, patient and the ability to establish rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail and a passion for teaching.
Adaptability to meet the diverse needs of our students
Willingness to extend self to help students succeed
Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Proficiency in using educational technology and online learning platforms.
Current knowledge of programs, objectives, and requirements
Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities

Develops and implements engaging and interactive lesson plans in various subjects, including mathematics, science, English, foreign languages, and social studies.
Enforce and abide by Upward Bound rules and regulations
Participate in Staff Training, scheduled staff meetings, etc.
Provides individualized tutoring and academic support to students to enhance their understanding and performance in core subjects.
Monitors and assesses student progress regularly, provides constructive feedback to students and their parents or guardians.
Collaborates with other instructors and staff members to coordinate educational activities, workshops, and field trips.
Mentors and guides students in setting academic goals and developing effective study skills.
Assists students in preparing for standardized tests, including ACT and SAT, by offering test-taking strategies and practice sessions.
Provides guidance and support to students in the college application process, including researching colleges, writing personal statements, and applying for scholarships and financial aid.
Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic performance, and program activities.
Understands and respects diverse believes and/or opinions with students and staff
Maintains a safe working area and conditions at all times
Dresses professionally and appropriately as related to the discipline
Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
