About The Position

The Program Specialist position at the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Baker City, Oregon, provides essential administrative support to the Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor. The role involves managing correspondence, travel logistics, and scheduling, while also advising on important issues during the supervisors' absence. The incumbent will implement procedures to enhance administrative effectiveness and streamline operations within the Forest Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level, including managing office activities and correspondence.
  • Experience providing administrative support for functions such as human resources, budget, and procurement.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and edit drafts of written correspondence and reports.
  • Utilization of automated systems for administrative functions, such as word processing and scheduling.
  • For GS-9 level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level, including operating as an office manager or executive assistant.

  • Graduate level education in Business Administration or related fields.
  • Superior Academic Achievement in relevant coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Advise Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor of important issues during their absence.
  • Apply analytical and evaluative techniques to identify and address administrative or operational procedural problems.
  • Handle all travel logistics and itineraries for the supervisors, ensuring they have necessary materials in advance.
  • Manage the correspondence process for the office, ensuring accurate and timely signing and distribution.
  • Schedule meetings and make arrangements, including preparing agendas and reserving conference space.
  • Develop and implement procedures to improve administrative effectiveness.
