Administration of Human Resource Programs

The Program Specialist at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for managing customer service programs within the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System. This role involves advocating for patients, resolving customer service issues, and leading initiatives aimed at improving service recovery for Veterans and their families.

  • Interpret the hospital's purpose, philosophy, procedures, and services to patients.
  • Assist patients and families in recognizing and removing obstacles to high-quality health care.
  • Receive and listen to complaints and grievances from patients or their representatives.
  • Safeguard and ensure the statutory and constitutional rights of patients.
  • Review files or records and discuss practices that may violate patient rights.
  • Document cases and produce monthly cumulative reports categorizing patient inquiries.
  • Maintain time and attendance records for employees assigned to the Experience Office.
  • Provide patients with proper direction or escort them to subject matter experts.
  • Research or investigate patient concerns through communication with administrative and clinical staff.
  • Assist patients in understanding their rights and responsibilities.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be able to serve a probationary period.
  • Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
  • Must participate in the COVID-19 vaccination program.
  • Experience in a medical facility.
  • Graduate level education in a related field.
