Support Activities for Agriculture and Forestry

The Program Specialist position at the Department of Agriculture is located in the Pacific Northwest Region, specifically on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Baker City, Oregon. The incumbent will provide administrative support to the Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor, ensuring effective management of correspondence, travel logistics, and operational procedures. This role is essential for maintaining the administrative efficiency of the Forest Leadership Team.

  • Advise the Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor on important issues during their absence.
  • Apply analytical and evaluative techniques to identify and address administrative or operational procedural problems.
  • Handle all travel logistics and itineraries for the Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor.
  • Manage the correspondence process for the office, ensuring accurate and timely signing and distribution.
  • Schedule meetings and make arrangements, including preparing agendas and reserving conference space.
  • Develop and implement procedures to improve administrative effectiveness within the Forest Leadership Team.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level for GS-7 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level for GS-9 applicants.
  • Ability to utilize automated systems for administrative functions such as word processing and scheduling.
  • Completion of a probationary period may be required.
  • Experience in managing office operations and inquiries.
  • Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures.
  • Experience in preparing and editing written correspondence and reports.
