The Program Specialist for Senior Services is a vital role located at the C Freeman Poole Senior Center in Marietta, GA. This full-time position is responsible for engaging with center participants and orchestrating a variety of events, trips, activities, and programs tailored for seniors. The working hours are Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of weekends and evenings as needed. The specialist will develop, plan, organize, promote, and direct senior programs and activities, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of participants. This includes not only the instruction of classes but also responsibilities such as fundraising, preparing promotional materials, and coordinating with volunteers to set up special events. In addition to program development, the specialist will conduct classes tailored to participants with varying fitness and cognitive levels. This involves recruiting participants for both new and existing classes, researching desired activities, and providing or arranging for instruction. The role also includes maintaining a database of participants and analyzing data related to the assigned programs to ensure effectiveness and engagement. Collaboration is key in this position, as the specialist will coordinate senior programming activities with community groups and other agencies. This includes recruiting, screening, and training volunteers and interns, particularly those majoring in therapeutic recreation. The specialist will also be responsible for inspecting facilities and equipment for safety, preparing the venue for classes and events, and enforcing safety regulations. Financial responsibilities include collecting and recording fees, maintaining appropriate accounting practices, and preparing necessary reports related to these transactions. Additionally, clerical support is required, which involves completing reports, maintaining calendars, and managing inventory for the area of assignment. The specialist will also be expected to perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the senior services program.
