About The Position
The City of Torrance is seeking a dedicated Program Specialist to join the Community Services Department as an EBT Coordinator for the Farmers' Market Team. This role is integral to the operations of the Farmers' Market, which features a vibrant selection of seasonal produce and local food from over 215 farmers and vendors, held twice a week. The Program Specialist will report directly to the Farmers' Market Manager and will be responsible for overseeing the EBT/CalFresh program during market days, specifically on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. In this position, the Program Specialist will create, track, and report essential information related to the EBT program, including maintaining logs for EBT distribution and reconciliation reports. The role requires training new farmers, vendors, and customers on the EBT payment system, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, and addressing public inquiries and complaints. The Program Specialist will also utilize social media to keep the community informed about EBT/CalFresh updates and will assist in the cash-taking process by counting tokens accurately. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to community service and will thrive in a fast-paced, outdoor environment. They will be expected to safeguard the EBT cabinet, organize buyback receipt bags, and assist with WIC payments and tracking. This position is perfect for someone who is self-motivated, organized, and possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The Program Specialist will play a vital role in enriching the community through the provision of quality services and programs.
