The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is a key division of the National Research Council, dedicated to advancing transportation innovation and progress through research and information exchange. The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) is a vital applied research initiative managed by TRB, focusing on developing practical solutions to pressing transportation issues. The Program Officer (PO) plays a pivotal role in the execution and management of NCHRP projects, working closely with Senior Program Officers (SPOs) to ensure the successful delivery of various transportation research projects. This position involves a blend of technical support, project coordination, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in the transportation field. As a Program Officer, you will be responsible for preparing project statements, progress reports, and presentations, as well as evaluating research reports and initiating contracts. You will assist in the administration of the program, ensuring that projects are aligned with the goals of NCHRP and that they benefit from the collective knowledge of various agencies and experts. The role requires a strong understanding of transportation topics, including design, bridges and structures, performance-based management, knowledge management, and data management. You will also coordinate logistical arrangements for panel meetings and workshops, ensuring that all necessary resources are available for effective collaboration. In addition to technical support, the Program Officer will engage in continuous learning and professional development, collaborating with team members to enhance skills and knowledge. This position offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid office/telecommute environment, with an expected onsite presence of 40% and occasional travel to various National Academies' facilities and off-site meetings. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about transportation research and are eager to contribute to the advancement of the field through effective project management and collaboration.
