The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is a key division of the National Research Council, which operates as a private, nonprofit institution dedicated to serving the government, public, and scientific communities. The TRB's mission is to lead in transportation innovation and progress through research and information exchange, conducted in an objective, interdisciplinary, and multimodal environment. The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) is an applied research program that focuses on developing practical solutions to transportation issues, managed by TRB. The Program Officer (PO) plays a vital role in executing and managing NCHRP projects, collaborating closely with Senior Program Officers (SPOs) to ensure successful project execution across various transportation topics, including design, bridges and structures, pavements and materials, maintenance, construction, safety, performance-based management, knowledge management, and data management. In this role, the Program Officer will assist in preparing project statements, progress reports, and presentations, evaluate research reports, initiate contracts, and monitor research activities. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. The Program Officer will also coordinate with Senior Program Assistants on logistical arrangements for panel meetings, forums, and workshops, ensuring that projects benefit from all available knowledge. The role involves learning from SPOs, collaborating with team members, and attending training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge. The Program Officer will support NCHRP project selection committees in formulating annual research programs by reviewing and evaluating submitted problems for research.
