About The Position

The Program Monitor will: Under the direction of the Program Officer, the Program Monitor gives oversight to Mission Guests staying in the lodge overnight; monitors the activity of residents ensuring safety, security, and compliance with Mission Policies; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that the dorm is maintained in a neat and proper order. Keeps the General Manager informed of operations, personnel, and policy issues at the Mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Good decision-making and supervisory skills are needed to ensure tasks and responsibilities are carried out with minimal daily supervision.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Proficient in computer skills in Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Travel is usually between Star Gospel Mission, partnering agencies, and donation sites.
  • Work requires the ability to lift, carry, and/or push/pull moderately heavy (50-100 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently.
  • Heavy mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, and reaching.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak and read English; bilingual skills in Spanish are highly beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the activities of Mission Guests, ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; makes periodic rounds of the entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift.
  • Distributes laundry soap, towels, linens, and personal hygiene items as needed.
  • Opens and closes the Mission doors at designated hours of operation.
  • Ensures the General Manager is aware of Mission Guests who did not check into the lodge for the evening.
  • Ensures that all lodge areas are in proper order after daily departure of Mission Guests.
  • Conduct guest bag checks upon entry to ensure that weapons, drugs, and drug paraphernalia are not brought into the Mission, maintaining a safe and secure environment for all guests, staff, and visitors.
  • Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding Mission operations.
  • Responds calmly to emergencies and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Cleans, sweeps, and mops the restroom areas as needed.
