Job Summary: The Security and Safety Program Manager (SSPM) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive Security and Safety Program, ensuring compliance and managing physical security administrative duties across all facilities. The SSPM ensures compliance with regulatory agencies (Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.), manages physical security risks, and oversees all safety requirements (excluding physical engineering equipment).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in law enforcement or security field, with at least two years in a healthcare environment required.
  • At least two years in a supervisory role related to security or safety required.
  • National Association of Safety Professionals certifications in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Safety Auditor (SAC) required within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) or Certified Safety Director (CSD) certification required within three years of hire.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements and strong communication skills (oral and written) required.
  • Job requires frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, bending, squatting and use of arms and hands; occasional (0-33% of workday) sitting and climbing; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include peripheral and color determination.
  • Possesses strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, detail oriented; ability to adapt to change, effective communication and ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Potential exposure to extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Works with leadership to maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Oversees physical security administrative duties.
  • Facilitates activities that foster safety awareness for the workforce.
  • Designs, executes, coordinates, and has direct responsibility for health system–wide, hospital specific, or department specific safety/fire drills and exercises, designed to assess the readiness levels of all MWHC facilities.
  • Identifies safety issues and enacts protective measures, educates staff, conducts inspections, and ensures unsafe conditions are corrected.
  • Coordinates Life Safety reports to executive leadership, management plans, and annual reviews for regulatory agencies (i.e., TJC).
  • Uses industry benchmarks to identify areas of deficiencies and develops actions plans with stakeholders to address.
  • Functions as the Chair of the Safety Council.
  • Maintains a comprehensive safety program for all MWHC locations.
  • Directs oversight of Environmental Safety and Life & Fire Safety Plans for hospitals and non-hospital facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
