About The Position

The Global Education Office (GEO) at Virginia Tech seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative, and globally-minded Program Manager to join its faculty-led programs team. GEO is the central hub for global experiential learning at Virginia Tech and plays a critical role in supporting the university's Beyond Boundaries vision, land-grant mission, and Ut Prosim ethos by expanding participation in global learning and study abroad. This full-time, in-person role supports a defined portfolio of faculty-led study abroad programs, collaborating with faculty leaders, students, providers, and Virginia Tech's global centers. The Program Manager is responsible for comprehensive program management-ranging from student advising and logistical planning to risk mitigation, financial administration, and regulatory compliance. The position also contributes substantially to program recruitment and pre-departure orientation programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students in an advising, programming, or administrative capacity.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including faculty, students, and external partners.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of financial processes such as budgeting, billing, or expense tracking.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software platforms quickly.
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in international education, higher education, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience managing or supporting faculty-led or short-term study abroad programs.
  • Familiarity with Terra Dotta or similar study abroad management systems.
  • Knowledge of international education standards and best practices (e.g., Forum on Education Abroad, NAFSA).
  • Experience coordinating travel logistics, vendor contracts, or program budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to support faculty in program development and implementation.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting, particularly in global education or student services.
