About The Position

Texas A&M Forest Service is seeking a highly motivated team member who has passion for water resources, ecosystem recovery and stewardship. This individual will be part of an integrated team that works to deliver technical assistance to support the agency mission of assuring the state's trees, forests and related natural resources are protected and sustained. General Summary: This position leads the Water Resources, Stewardship, Forest Legacy and post-fire/disaster recovery programs and activities, managing dedicated grants and supervising staff to engage with stakeholders across the state in activities that work towards protecting, conserving and enhancing Texas' water resources through the sustainable use of urban and rural forests and woodlands, as well as maintaining healthy and productive ecosystems across the state. The position will coordinate and deliver the agency fireline assessment program, develop initiative strategies leading to sourcewater protection, collaborate with administrative and field staff to ensure effective delivery of agency initiatives and develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry from an SAF accredited university or other closely related natural resource field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in delivery of water resources, forest stewardship or other natural resource field programs.
  • Ability to multi-task, work effectively with minimal supervision and to work cooperatively with internal and external partners.
  • Must have or obtain a Texas Driver's license within 30 days of employment and have a driving record that meets agency requirements.
  • NWCG S130/190 Certification or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Sound judgement. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Working knowledge of database operations and a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges, such as developing non-traditional partnerships.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources or other related field of study.
  • Supervisory or team leader experience.
  • Two (2) years of specialized field experience in sourcewater conservation, grant-writing and management and employee supervision.
  • Have one or several of the following credentials: Certified Arborist, Certified Forester, NWCG Resource Advisor.
  • Working knowledge of agency administrative procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain working relationships with external working groups and organizations.
