About The Position

JerseySTEM is a non-profit organization that provides free after-school instruction in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related disciplines to middle school girls in underserved communities in New Jersey in order to interest girls to study and potentially become employed in jobs in STEM related professions. This is an unpaid position with JerseySTEM Benefits to Program Instructors You will gain a sense of accomplishment by helping to bridge the gender gap in STEM You will obtain valuable first-hand presentation skills in front of a class, which will be very important in your school work. You will perform meaningful volunteer work by helping to develop STEM awareness in underserved communities. Your resume will be embellished by showing future employers a commitment to your community. You will be provided with free transportation to deliver the STEM classes Opportunity to obtain valuable first-hand experience as an instructor You may gain access to exclusive mentorship programming from a corporate mentor designed to help you with your career.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in college or grad school, while majoring in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, education).
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies, tools, and software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching or mentoring students in a STEM-related subject area is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Delivering in-person interactive and hands-on lessons in STEM subjects.
  • Providing guidance and support to students during classroom workshops, and events.
  • Collaborating with other instructors, volunteers, and staff to develop and improve curriculum materials and program content.
  • Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
