About The Position

The Thompson Rivers Parks and Recreation District is looking for enthusiastic and creative individuals to help us provide a healthy, happy community through people, parks, programs and partnerships! We welcome instructors with diverse skills and interests—whether it's arts and crafts, STEM, wellness, sports, or something new, we encourage you to bring your passion to our team. We offer programs for all ages, starting at 18 months and older, and are always looking for fresh ideas to engage our community. In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning and leading classes in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment while ensuring participants have a positive and safe experience. This is an independent role—depending on location, instructors may be the sole TRPR staff member on-site during class times. Ideal candidates are reliable, self-sufficient, and able to create a welcoming atmosphere for all participants. Are you passionate about sharing your skills and inspiring others? Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Prior teaching experience highly desired.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current CPR & First Aid certification from the American Red Cross or the ability to obtain such certification prior to employment start date.
  • Knowledge of current principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques specific to area of expertise.
  • Ability to lead and engage a class of 4 to 15 participants.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate proper techniques and remain engaged with participants.
  • Ability to adapt class activities to meet for a wide variety of participant skill levels.
  • Ability to maintain program-specific certifications.
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards and sanitation issues.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and staff.
  • Ability to communicate, follow and enforce all rules, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to remain composed in emergency situations and make sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead classes in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment.
  • Ensure participants have a positive and safe experience.
  • Engage a class of 4 to 15 participants.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques and respond to questions specific to the program of instruction.
  • Adapt class activities to meet a wide variety of participant skill levels.
  • Complete and maintain well-organized class records, logs, and incident reports.
  • Operate all program-specific equipment safely.
  • Set up, maintain, and tear down activity-related equipment and community room space.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
