About The Position

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Coaching • Teach age‑appropriate basketball fundamentals, including dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, defense, and game concepts. • Demonstrate proper technique and provide constructive, encouraging feedback. • Adapt instruction to meet the developmental needs and skill levels of different age groups. Curriculum Development • Create a structured, progressive 7–8 week curriculum that balances skill-building, teamwork, and fun. • Incorporate drills, games, and activities that promote motor development, coordination, and confidence. • Ensure each session includes warm-ups, skill instruction, practice time, and age-appropriate scrimmages. Youth Engagement & Safety • Foster a positive, inclusive environment where all children feel supported and motivated. • Manage group dynamics and maintain a safe, organized playing area. • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and program staff. Program Support • Track participant progress and adjust instruction as needed. • Assist with equipment setup, cleanup, and inventory. • Uphold program policies and ensure a safe, respectful environment.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and coaching techniques.
  • Previous experience working with children ages 5–12 in sports, recreation, or education settings.
  • Understanding of child development and age‑appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Ability to create engaging, fun, and structured lesson plans.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and leadership skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coaching youth basketball or leading youth sports programs.
  • Background in physical education, recreation, child development, or related fields.
  • Ability to motivate young athletes and create a positive team culture.
