About The Position

About this Role: The Summer Business and Entrepreneurship Program Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging and informative lectures, workshops, and activities that align with the program's curriculum. They provide guidance and mentorship to participants, offering insights into business concepts, entrepreneurial strategies, and industry trends. The instructor also evaluates student performance, provides constructive feedback, and contributes to creating a dynamic and enriching learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, or related fields
  • Has a combination of teaching and business related education and/or experience
  • Familiarity with financial concepts, personal finance, business planning/development, and the basics of entrepreneurship
  • Heights employees: Must meet expectations to report in-person on a schedule determined by their direct manager and/or the Vice President of the team.
  • Must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter.
  • Must be able to complete an I-9 employment verification form to work in the United States
  • Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners and colleagues
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc)
  • Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting and review.
  • Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners. Office-based staff should be mindful of the organization’s strong recommendation that staff maintain up to date with COVID vaccination and boosters. Site-based staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must submit to any COVID testing or other health screenings as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia.
  • Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate controlled.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Access to reliable transportation required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with adolescents as an instructor, tutor, or mentor in an urban educational setting (preferred)
  • Interest in advancing equity and access to Financial Services and Business among students from underinvested communities

Responsibilities

  • Developing and refining lesson plans, ensuring they are age-appropriate and cater to the diverse learning styles of 9th and 10th-grade students
  • Facilitating interactive discussions and group activities to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among participants
  • Creating a positive and encouraging learning environment that inspires students to explore their entrepreneurial potential and develop a passion for business
  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes effective communication and collaboration among students
  • Providing timely and constructive feedback on assignments, projects, and presentations, helping students understand their strengths and areas for improvement
  • Utilizing a variety of teaching methods, multimedia resources, and industry-related examples to enhance the overall learning experience
  • Assisting with organizing and coordinating guest speaker sessions with professionals from the business and entrepreneurial sectors to provide additional insights and networking opportunities.
  • Evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of instructional methods, making adjustments as needed to meet the learning objectives
  • Collaborating with the Program Coordinator and Program Associate to ensure the seamless integration of various program components
  • Participating actively in program-related meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay aligned with the program's goals and objectives
  • Contributing to the ongoing development and enhancement of the program curriculum, suggesting improvements based on student feedback and emerging educational trends
