About The Position

Southern Nuclear Operating Company’s corporate Fleet Plant Support Department provides support for the Southern Nuclear Fleet. We are seeking engineers with experience in Inservice Inspection, Flow Accelerated Corrosion, License Renewal/Aging Management, Buried Piping and Tanks, FLEX, Reactor Internals, and/or Cable Monitoring Programs. These program engineers are responsible for providing technical leadership and guidance in the aforementioned program(s). The successful candidate should have understanding of applicable regulations, codes, and industry standards and experience with program implementation in nuclear power plants. Activities involve ensuring code/regulatory compliance, identifying industry best practices, developing/maintaining fleet procedures, participation in industry working groups, and troubleshooting problems. The job can be located at any of our SNC Plant sites, Plant Farley, Plant Hatch, or Plant Vogtle or at the Corporate HQ location in Birmingham. The candidate must live within 1 hour of one of these locations to support ERO duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, or Professional Engineer license, is required. (Engineering Technology will not be accepted).
  • Mechanical or Materials Engineering discipline is preferred. Nuclear, Civil, Chemical, and Electrical Engineering degrees will be considered based upon the candidate’s experience.
  • A strong technical background in engineering and working knowledge of applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to the applicable programs.
  • Three (3) years or more of application and experience with programs such as Inservice Inspection, Flow Accelerated Corrosion, License Renewal/Aging Management, Buried Piping and Tanks, FLEX, Reactor Internals, and/or Cable Monitoring Programs is desired.
  • Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions based on experience and appropriate industry practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues and drive problem resolution through various levels of management at the plant sites and corporate office.
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse groups at the plant sites and corporate office to drive standard technical solutions to system/component issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to initiate, coordinate and oversee multiple complex projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities.
  • Ability to use good judgment and make sound engineering and business decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with counterparts at each nuclear plant site.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years or more of application and experience with applicable programs is preferred.
  • Proficiency in interpretation of system/component/isometric drawings is preferred.
  • Nuclear power site station experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in systems engineering, programs engineering, or component engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • These positions will be responsible for the SNC program performance and associated processes/procedures are maintained and standardized throughout the SNC fleet.
  • The program engineers are responsible for ensuring applicable regulatory code compliance, application of industry best practices, and the governance, oversight, support and performance functions of plant equipment inspection/testing.
  • Engineering assignments typically include refueling outage support and industry travel associated with assigned duties.
  • These positions are expected to support Corporate ERO duties.
