About the position

The Program & Education Coordinator position at James Madison University (JMU) is a part-time role within the Community Engagement and Volunteer Center (CEVC). This position is designed for current JMU students who are looking to gain experience in planning educational programs and engaging with the community. The role involves supporting various community-based initiatives and facilitating volunteer opportunities for students. The work environment is described as fun and collaborative, with a focus on student leadership and community change.

Responsibilities

  • Support Fall, January, and Spring Alternative Break through training, mentoring and logistics.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Dukes Volunteer, leading students in a weekly volunteer opportunity (8-12 weeks per semester).
  • Facilitate leadership retreats the first day of Fall Break and over MLK Jr. Weekend (prior to Spring semester).
  • Actively participate in CEVC trainings, reflection sessions, and meetings to enhance knowledge and skills for the position.
  • Co-lead Dukes Making a Difference (DMAD) (Aug. 13-15, 2025).
  • Recruit students for CEVC programs and assist with event support, planning, and execution.
  • Prepare materials for events and represent CEVC at tabling events, in classes, and lead reflection sessions.
  • Maintain a clean, well-functioning office space, office wide email account, and contact lists (students, staff, etc.).
  • Support student involvement via BeInvolved, Volunteer Now, Trello, etc.
  • Create and share ideas for social media content (optional).

Requirements

  • Be a current JMU student (must be enrolled in at least 6 credits).
  • Ability to start on August 6, attend a 40-hour Fall Training, and work a maximum of 10 hours per week (including Tuesdays from 8-9:30pm).
  • Interest in learning about and working to address community priorities, including ending hunger and homelessness, supporting health, youth and education, welcoming immigrants and refugees, and protecting the environment.
  • Effective time management, task organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Maintain flexibility, think critically, and identify solutions.
