The Program Director is responsible for the overall management, clinical and rehabilitation services, staffing, facilities, and fiscal operations of an adult residential treatment program. The Program Director manages the flow of clients into and out of the program and advocates for and responds to clients’ treatment and rehabilitation needs.

  • Deliver high quality clinical, rehabilitative and culturally competent services to clients with substance abuse, psychiatric diagnosis, and HIV-related issues.
  • Perform intake interviews and assist with client treatment plan development, implementation and discharge planning.
  • Assess the clinical needs of resident clients.
  • Evaluate clients for potential crisis situations and determine appropriate intervention and management.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions as assigned.
  • Monitor and document clients’ progress toward achievement of individual goals.
  • Record clinical notes and hourly rounds to meet Medi-Cal standards and licensure requirements.
  • Act as a role model - guiding clients and facilitating appropriate behavior, teaching daily living skills, self-care, personal interaction, social relationships and constructive time management.
  • Ensure that clients are linked with a primary care provider and assist with identifying and accessing community resources.
  • Participate in staff and shift change meetings.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates all personnel within the program.
  • Effectively and consistently uses Baker Places Personnel Policies and the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in all staff encounters, actions and decisions.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationship with client referral sources and other related mental health, substance abuse and community service programs.
  • Review for accuracy all client records and charts to ensure compliance with agency, clinical, fiscal and Medi-Cal standards and licensure requirements.
  • Set-up and coordinate staff work schedules.
  • Conducts a weekly staff meeting(s), supervision where client, staff and household milieu issues are addressed.
  • Coordinate the collection of client census data and reports as required.
  • Maintains facility and services in accordance with licensure standards.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or any other major which includes at least 24 semester units in one or more of the following subject areas: Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral sciences, Psychiatric Nursing.
  • One (1) year of full-time work experience in a community program that serves clients who have a mental illness, with four (4) months in a position of supervising direct care staff.
  • A total of three years of experience in providing direct services in the community to persons with mental illness, with six (6) months in a position of supervising direct care staff, and graduation from high school or possession of a GED may be substituted.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Social Rehabilitation.
  • Master’s degree in behavioral health science or four years full time equivalent (8,320 hours) documented experience in a residential treatment setting may be substituted for the academic degree.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience as Program Director of adult residential treatment facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, lead, coach, supervise and train staff.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency while working with diverse populations on the issues of mental health, substance abuse and HIV-AIDS.
  • Previous experience compiling data, creating and distributing reports, and responding to governmental requests for information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, clients and other providers both orally and in writing.
