The Program Director for Veteran and Military Services is responsible for certifying veterans for benefits from the Veteran Administration and providing academic advising for veterans in degree, career, and transfer programs. This position also involves planning, coordinating, and implementing operations and special activities related to veterans' services.

  • Serve as the certifying official for benefits sponsored by the Department of Veteran Affairs.
  • Manage the daily operation of Veteran Services.
  • Collaborate with extension center sites and coordinate services for veterans, military members, and dependents.
  • Supervise and evaluate designated staff within Veteran Services.
  • Train and evaluate personnel assisting people receiving veterans' benefits.
  • Consult with various colleges, universities, departments, businesses, and corporations regarding course and program requirements.
  • Create and process supplemental letters for transfer students.
  • Maintain an active liaison relationship with academic departments and divisions on campus.
  • Interpret and communicate college policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues to facilitate student registration.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for veterans and their dependents.
  • Create and implement strategies to improve student success.
  • Assist in the development of informational and marketing materials related to services and programming.
  • Respond to and manage cases assigned through the Retention Alert System.
  • Facilitate new student veteran orientation and co-curricular activities programming.
  • Oversee data maintenance on veteran services activities and prepare monthly activity reports.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations affecting veteran services benefits and financial aid.
  • Acquire and update professional knowledge and skills through workshops and conferences.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three years of experience in education or a related field required.
  • Two years' supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in academic advising required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate in a written and spoken foreign language.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Veteran Affairs regulations.
  • Ability to make small group presentations.
  • Experience providing direct service to a diverse population.
