About The Position

The Program Director of Surgical Technology is responsible for budget preparation, fiscal administration, curriculum development and coordination, recommendation of individuals for instructional appointment and promotion, supervision and evaluation of instructors, determining instructional teaching assignments and schedules, determining admissions criteria and procedures, scheduling use of program facilities, development and responsibilities to maintain ARCSTSA accreditation compliance and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and ongoing maintenance of CST.
  • Five (5) years' experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both within the past ten years.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters of Science in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching in a college setting.
  • Experience in a variety of teaching and evaluation methods and delivery mediums including multimedia presentation of classroom lectures and laboratory activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and submits proposed class, lab, clinical schedules and teaching load to the Director.
  • Requests and maintains clinical sites each semester to ensure surgical technology students are able to develop cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills in the provision of surgical tech duties.
  • Arranges student orientation to each clinical affiliate assigned.
  • Collects and provides mandated student information for all clinical affiliates.
  • Updates clinical affiliation agreements as necessary to maintain currency.
  • Assists with hiring, orienting, and overseeing certified surgical technologists to supervise students in the lab learning experiences.
  • Maintains up-to-date full-time and adjunct instructor certification, CPR, and immunization records as appropriate.
  • Schedules background screening and drug tests as mandated for surgical technology students and contact clinical sites regarding students with a positive background for eligibility to perform clinicals.
  • Completes annual surveys for program accreditation and external funding and submits copies to the Director and Dean of Nursing and Allied Health (includes such items as pass rates, retention, employment, and evaluations).
  • Manages/maintains all accreditation requirements as per the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCSTSA).
  • Obtains adjunct faculty evaluations at the end of each semester and shares results with the Director.
  • Provides a proposal for a budget to the Director and Dean of Nursing and Allied Health and supervise the expenditures of funds allocated.
  • Processes requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Validates the testing fees to be associated with each course prior to the beginning of each semester.
  • Develops and writes grant requests and submits to the Director.
  • Determines textbook/resource adoptions for each semester and submits to the Director.
  • Serves as student academic advisor and write student academic plans as required for student financial aid.
  • Attends professional development activities to maintain appropriate certification.
  • Orients, observes, and evaluates instructors in their assigned duties.
  • Reports instructor absences and leave requests to the Director.
  • Ensures College reports and requested information are submitted accurately and promptly.
