The Director will oversee the management, reliability, and provision of all research and academic properties in support of the mission of the Academic Enterprise and in alignment with the mission of UTMB. This includes overseeing Operations and Maintenance services such as environmental services, grounds and landscaping, contract management, waste management, emergency management, and maintenance activities. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with various accrediting agencies including AAALAC, CDC, GLP, NIH, USDA, SAC, State Fire Marshall, TCEQ, and all other relevant authorities.

  • Work closely with Deans, Chairs, Principal Investigators, and other faculty to achieve program priorities and objectives with a focus on customer service.
  • Develop, direct, and oversee specialized focus teams in Electrical, HVAC, Building Automation Systems, Plumbing, and Waste Management.
  • Maintain, renew, and manage all Health System, Academic Enterprise, and Institutional Support facilities’ assets, space, and properties.
  • Create and implement department policy in alignment with accrediting agencies.
  • Develop and oversee emergency management plans for natural and unplanned risks to UTMB facilities and operations.
  • Assist the Associate Vice President of Property Services in department leadership and budget management, and assume full management responsibility in their absence.
  • Act as an owner’s representative in the direction of planners, architects, engineers, and consultants for capital projects.
  • Oversee and ensure readiness of all research and academic space in accordance with accrediting agencies and authorities.
  • Manage to measurable targets and provide a development strategy for staff at all levels.
  • Provide a measurable quality management program including assurance, control, and process improvement activities.
  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities, Business or related field.
  • Seven (7) years of experience as a manager in a facilities management related role.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant program.
  • Seven years’ experience at a director level in an Academic Institution with significant research activity, especially in BSL-2 through BSL-4 environments.
